Another Workshop Date Just Added!

I had a couple of ladies request a class date at my workshop in La Pine in May.

So, since I can accommodate 4 people at my studio, I am listing this class with space available and can take 2 more lucky people!

If you are, in fact, interested in my Reverse Glass Enameling workshop and these dates in May will work for you, don't hesitate - email me today to get your name in there!

Twigs Reception

A big THANK YOU to everyone who came out to Sisters last night for the Fourth Friday Art Stroll reception at Twigs Gallery. Kristin and I really enjoyed talking to all of you and sharing our work with you.  Although the reception was last night, the show will continue to hang through the third week in May, so if you didn't get a chance to go up you still have time!

An extra special Thank You to the ladies at Twigs/The Stitchin' Post who did a really fabulous job of hanging the show.  We are so grateful for that!  And, of course, to anyone who purchased a piece of art (or two, or three) - we are happy to share what we do with you and to know that it is appreciated.

Here are some pictures of the display and one of my sister and me with our smiling faces!

The Shape Of Things To Come

For years I have been trying to do something different than other glass artists and not make bowls and plates.  I created my method of making reverse glass paintings and then mounting them on unique found wood pieces.  I loved them.  Customers loved them.

And I still do.

But recently I've noticed a trend with people saying that they just don't know what they would "do" with it.  So, I decided to start making more plates and platters. Still using my reverse painting techniques, but now you can actually serve or eat off of these art pieces.  If you choose to.

And I have gone from making mostly square plates and platters to now I am making round bowls.  My challenge used to be that I thought the bowls would make it harder to see my art work in them.  But I have found a way to make it work.  I have simply adjusted my drawings to accommodate the final shape.  That meant drawing in a round format that can be viewed from all directions and from the top.

I am still working on the best way to photograph these very dimensional and reflective pieces, but I think you get the idea.

So this year so far has been full of roundness!  It has been challenging and fun.  I hope you like this shape as much as I do.

I've heard that this is the "perfect ice cream bowl"

Bird Bowl

I had a wonderful evening yesterday sharing a space at the Tetherow Holiday Bazaar with my sister, Kristin.  We had a cute little corner spot with 2 tables - one for my glass work and one for her beautiful art quilts, fabric journal covers, hats and small paintings.  Now that I live closer to her I hope we can share more days like this as we both find our way to selling more of our handmade goods.

Yesterday I sold several pieces including my large Bird Bowl.  It truly was a favorite of mine and it was nice that a woman who was thinking and thinking about it had a wonderful husband who came along behind her and bought it as a surprise for Christmas.

One of the other sales last night was this cute little doggie plate.  The man who bought this was buying something else, then suddenly said - Oh, I'll take this, too.  It looks just like our dog!   It's fun when people see things they just relate to immediately.

I have updated my Etsy shop with the sales from last night, so take a look around.  I will be sending some items to Artisan's Etc. in Big Bear very soon as well, so catch it now if you are interested!  I also plan to add a few more items tonight or tomorrow, so check back if you think about it.  ALSO - don't forget, you can use coupon code HOLIDAY15 for 15%off any purchase over $40  now through Dec 20th!

Birdie Tiles

I have been working on making some designs into wall hangings.  I am starting with these  4 x 4" size tiles that are fun little pops of color.

These are all done in my reverse painting technique with the opaque enamels and fired 4 times each.  They are great on their own, or hung in sets of 2 or more.

I will have some of these and many more available at my next show in October in downtown Bend at the Bend Fall Festival.  If you are interested in any of them now, however, please let me know!

I have mounted the tile onto a wood backing with a hole for very easy hanging.  This mounting also makes them stand out from the wall about 3/4" and makes for a really neat display on the wall.

Silly Dog Ranch

When we bought our new house there was a large saw blade with the address numbers and 2 small SS lightning bolts painted on it (long story).

So, we took that sign down and I repainted it to our liking.  We have officially named our little acreage "Silly Dog Ranch" and this sign hangs out front for all to see.

Loving it.

Blue Couple

A week or so ago I received an email from a past client.  She had just finished doing some work on their lake house and she has a spot that she would like a custom piece of glass made for.

After some back and forth on sizing and design, I came up with a sketch.  She wanted two Stellers Jays and so this is what I sketched up.

IMG_3816

This is just an outline sketch.  The glass will have more detail and, of course, color. This is a really fun project and I am looking forward to firing up the old kiln for the first time since the move and getting it done for her.

I will keep you posted as this piece come together.

A New View

Well, Hello again!

I have been very out of touch recently due to our recent move from Crestline, CA to La Pine, OR.  Don't let anyone tell you moving is a piece of cake.  Especially when you are moving to another state with a business that includes a glass workshop and all of it's tools and equipment as well as a complete woodworking workshop.

All I can say is I am glad it's done!

We have been in our new house for about 3 weeks.  The glass painting studio and wood shop are all put together and up and running.  Except for those two pieces of equipment that must be out in storage somewhere......

Anyway - I wanted to say Hi again and let you know about a show I am doing this weekend!  It is the Sisters Art in the Park event held at the Creekside Park in Sisters, OR. Going into Sisters from Bend you will see the park and all the vendor booths on your left - you can't miss it!

Hope to see you soon!
